Introducing Oak Chiropractic
When an individual, or in this case two individuals, decide to start a business there is usually a reason why they have made that decision. That reason drove them to take the leap, cease working for their employer, take the risk and start their own business. For many, it’s for purely financial gains. For some, it’s because they feel they have mastered their craft enough to go forward alone, and for others, it’s because they are extremely passionate about an industry or an idea. In our case, here at Oak chiropractic, that reason was based around a passion toward an idea and the fact that we felt there’s very few in our field that was operating in the way we saw as best practise. We felt there is a gap in our industry. And in such an important industry being the health industry, we believe that is an important gap to fill. We have been fortunate to have practised as chiropractors for a number of years. In this time we have been able to develop a unique perspective of what the industry is doing well and what we feel it could improve on.
Let’s be real here, there is lots the Australian health industry is doing well! We are so so lucky to live in a country that has one of the best public health systems in the world in terms of accessibility and quality of care. We see a gap for our industry regarding the many health professionals’ idea of what is deemed “a successful intervention for their patients”. Someone see’s a health professional for management of specific symptoms. That professional applies an intervention and those symptoms disappear. Success! Right? In some instances, yes. If someone presents with symptoms of a heart attack and the intervention relieves those symptoms, that is obviously a great success! But what interventions could have been made before that heart attack, for it to have been managed and avoided? What is that person doing post episode to make sure they look after their heart health going forward? At Oak, this is the mentality we aim to encourage BUT with your spinal health!
Obviously, back pain is not as life threatening as a heart attack, but the concepts should be similar in what you can do prior to and after an episode, to prevent future occurrences. Similarly to how a heart check up with your GP can give you important information on how well your cardiovascular system is functioning, we believe a neuro-musculo-skeletal check up with a chiropractor, can give you similar important information. We can help you understand how well your body is functioning and what can be done to either improve it, maintain it or optimise it. That’s where we come in! We take great pleasure here at Oak in being the professionals to assess your current neuro-musculo-skeletal function. we look forward in helping to educate you on what you need to be doing do to improve, maintain and optimise your spinal health. The result is improved function and less discomfort in the short term, BUT the real magic is what happens in the long term! If you can consistently implement the actions and behaviours that were beneficial in the short-term and maintain them over weeks, months and years, the difference in your function in your later life will be incomparable!
This is where the concept of “The Life of Probable vs Possible” started. Without knowing you may live a life of complacency where you don’t pay much attention to looking after your spinal health. Aches and stiffness become the norm. Manageable conditions slowly turn into chronic issues, eventuating in a life where the only way to be pain-free is via medication. This version of life is the one where your loving two year old grand-child reaches out with open arms for a cuddle and you don’t trust your back enough to pick them up. This is what we call “the life of probable” - this is the life that a lot of Australians will probably live!
But there’s another option — “The Life of Possible”
This is a life where your spine and nervous system are working at their best. You’re not just getting by, you're moving well, sleeping better, focusing more, and ticking off your daily goals without being slowed down by your body. This is the life where you retire from the job you love on your own terms, not because your chronic condition has forced you. This is the life where you continue those hikes up the Glasshouse Mountains with your friends, where you continue playing 18 holes with your mates, where you continue weeding those annoying dandelions that keep popping up in your beloved garden. This is the life where you pick up that two year old grandchild for a cuddle and maybe even throw them up in the air and catch them to get that adorable chuckle out of them!
This is The Life of Possible! - Let us show you how to live this life!
